Governance and Institutional Capacity Building

governance

After three decades of civil war in Somalia, we know that sustainable human development requires democracy and accountability.

Advocating and establishing democratic institutions in Somalia, will give a chance Somali people to influence their government to prioritize national development that is equitable and sustainable and as well will create an environment where people are able to demand better policies in which their leaders are accountable. HOMDAS organization emphasizes the realization of accountable and transparent governance systems. HOMDAS’s work in this area focuses on promotion of good governance and democracy, in a way of enhancing Institutional capacity building of public institutions, improving policy, strategy and legal frameworks. HOMDAS emboldens systems supporting transparency, accountability, citizen participation in peace-building, social auditing and right to information.

Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptability

Environmental awareness in communities encompasses a range of issues, including maintaining clean air, water, and soil. It also involves minimizing waste generation and promoting practices that enhance the beauty, heritage, and overall engagement with the natural environment. Additionally, a well-informed community strives to mitigate the impacts of climate change and adapt to its inevitable consequences.

We take a multi-pronged approach to environmental protection and climate adaptation.  First, we focus on improving biodiversity conservation through educational programs, scientific management practices, and targeted training initiatives. This empowers local communities to become stewards of their environment.  Second, we enhance the quality of life for local residents by working to conserve natural resources. This includes activities like reforestation to combat overgrazing, constructing water catchments to address water scarcity, and planting trees to prevent soil erosion. We also address overfishing to ensure the sustainability of marine resources.  Finally, we prioritize long-term sustainability by ensuring the wise use of the natural environment for present and future generations.  This includes programs that decrease vulnerability to climate change and improve the adaptation capacity of poor local communities, preparing them to face the challenges of a changing climate.

Livelihoods and food Security

Food security is the availability of food in a country, and the ability of individuals in that country to access, afford and source adequate foodstuffs.

We address livelihood and food security through various initiatives. Skills training empowers youth and equips individuals for jobs or businesses, fostering financial independence. Water access for production improves crop yields and livestock health, strengthening food security at the local level. Emergency response ensures food security during crises, preventing hunger and malnutrition. We promote income security through microfinance and market access for farmers, enabling them to invest in their farms and generate a sustainable income. Training agricultural professionals improves farming practices and food production, leading to greater efficiency and abundance. Finally, programs empower youth and women in fishing communities for long-term sustainability, ensuring a continued source of food and income for future generations.

Social Development

social development

We focus on empowering and supporting vulnerable populations, including women, girls, children, refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, asylum seekers, and minorities.

We are committed to fostering a thriving and empowered society through a comprehensive approach to social development. This includes ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all ages, along with promoting lifelong learning opportunities. We believe in an active citizenry, and therefore support civic education and people’s participation in government to achieve better outcomes. Additionally, we prioritize access to essential healthcare services by working to increase access to necessary medical services and improve the quality of medical care provided. Our focus extends to ensuring the availability, access, and utilization of sanitation and health facilities, along with clean and safe drinking water. Furthermore, we champion women’s empowerment and the provision of essential protection services for vulnerable individuals. By addressing these interconnected social determinants, we aim to create a society where everyone can thrive.
